How is pickleball different from tennis?

What They Are Saying

I never read a book like this before. It is filled with videos that you can watch while reading the book. The videos have QR codes that you click on so you can watch the videos and read the book at the same time. I also liked the way the author kept commenting on the videos, adding a lot of information and explaining things.

I went to a beginner’s clinic with Bob, and he told me about his book. I downloaded it and read through it in a day. Then I went back and reread it, clicking on the QR codes so I could watch the videos. By watching the videos and reading Bob’s detailed explanations, I was able to practice the strokes against a wall in my garage. The book is perfect for beginners to learn how to play better.

Pickleball for Beginners, as Bob says, is a ‘must-read for anyone who wants to learn how to play pickleball.’ The book is filled with links to videos of drills and instruction geared for beginners. For me, the section about comparing lessons with clinics was an eye-opener. Would you rather pay $20 for a ¼ of an hour-long lesson or $55 for a private lesson (100% of an hour)? I took a clinic with three other people, and now in retrospect, I think it was a mistake. I wish I had read the book prior to taking the clinic.

I’ve now been taking private lessons and have improved so much. I had to choose between lessons and clinics, and thanks to this book I chose lessons. There are a lot of things like this in the book from choosing a paddle to choosing an instructor. It’s a great book. I recommend it to my friends, who are also just learning how to play pickleball.

I bought the paperback version and was wondering how I would be able to view all the videos in the book. It was quite simple. I just used the camera on my iPhone, and it was easy to do.

All I can say is that I wish I read this book before taking some clinics at my local sports club. To begin with, I listened to a friend and bought an expensive paddle that is too heavy for me, and my elbow hurts after playing. The clinic I signed up for was supposed to be for beginners, but there were people there who were definitely not beginners, and it was very uncomfortable for me trying to keep up with them. Lastly, the instructor seemed to favor the better players. He certainly gave them more attention than he did to me or the other beginners. In hindsight, had I read the book first I could have avoided a lot of mistakes that I’m sure many beginners make.

I’m an experienced pickleball player and enter many tournaments each year. I started out as a tennis player so the transition to pickleball was quite natural and easy for me. A friend, who is just starting out playing pickleball, showed me this book. I was blown away. I would call the book a shortcut for anyone who wants to learn how to play pickleball.

This is really a good book for anyone who wants to start playing pickleball. I attended a free clinic at our tennis club, and I can see why pickleball is such a great game. Then someone gave me a link to the PDF of Bob’s book, and I found it very useful. The information about lessons vs. clinics, how to find an instructor, and the chapters on paddles was particularly helpful. I haven’t even started learning about the shots, but I looked at a few videos referenced in the book, and I can see how you can learn from them.
